THERE IS A CALLING TO DOCUMENT
This video is from a Facebook live session inside the Scribal Prophets group. I believe the topics presented are critical to prophetic scribes today, including answering the question as to "WHY" everyday people need to be more involved in the documentation process in the world around them. This is why I decided to share this video in this course. It didn't make sense to redo it.
This week, consider what is shared here and how it might apply to some of your scribal projects. While what we are learning crosses into all kinds of projects, the topic of marginalization helps us frame why "documentation" is important globally.
Leading scholars define marginalized people as populations who are "excluded from mainstream social, economic, cultural, or political life. Examples of marginalized populations include, but are by no means limited to, groups excluded due to race, religion, political or cultural group, age, gender, or economic status."1
A key phrase in this statement is "by no means limited to" the groups listed. Marginalized people can be found everywhere - not just in the groups we commonly recognize. For example, there are deaf, blind, disabled war veterans, people born without limbs, etc. It is literally referencing any group that finds themselves on the fringes of society without a voice or proper representation that makes room for them to contribute to the whole in a productive way. In addition, people can also be marginalized in families, the workplace, varying industries, etc.
There are some people taking this course who are assigned to document certain projects within the cultures they impact. We must continue to hold to the knowledge that documentation is "evidence, proof, records... artifacts." Also, remember that ALL HUMANITY makes history, therefore has an opportunity to document it.
