Prophetic Writing
Using PROPHETIC Writing Prompts
In this session, we will differentiate between prophetic writing prompts and general writing prompts. We will discuss why prophetic writing prompts are critical to the prophetic writing flow.
Why writing prompts for prophetic writers?
Sometimes prophetic writers need writing prompts that will not only stimulate writing, but stir their hearts in the Lord which often activates the prophetic. Hitting prophetic streams is the goal of the prophetic writer. It literally means that they are in the prophetic writing realm and hearing the heart and mind of the Father. Writing prompts that push us to meditate on the scriptures are fuel to the prophetic writing flow.
While general, non-spiritual writing prompts are helpful, they do not necessarily direct our hearts to our source. Please understand that nothing is wrong with using them! but I firmly believe that prophetic writers, especially those seeking breakthrough and spiritual growth, need spiritual solutions.
Just as we can expect the Lord to answer a prayer or give us a direct personal prophecy, we can also trust him to guide pens and release in us Holy imagination. We can expect to meet him with the wonder of a loving son with childlike faith.
Joshua 1:8 NIV reminds us to "Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
In our new covenant context, we are admonished to keep "Christ" always on our lips as he is the living word. Even more so, we have the mind of Christ which is a part of our decision-making processes.
In the next section, we will dive into some fun and excited writing prompts pulled directly from my book, "50 Prophetic Writing Prompts to Jumpstart Your Prophetic Writing Flow."
It is my belief that these exercises will:
- Stimulate deeper relationship with Christ
- Encourage meditation of the Holy Scriptures
- Activate, enhance or increase the writer's prayer life
- Increase sensitivity to the spirit
- Broaden the view of characters in the bible and their situations
- Provoke and activate the holy imagination
- Stir up The Scribal Anointing® in the prophetic writer
- Provoke healing or awakening
- Reveal literary forms found in the Bible to encourage and empower prophetic writers to explore different writing styles
- Identify their prophetic time clock
- Increase prophetic writing flow
I am convinced that our Father took great joy in watching the writers and recorders of scripture prophetically tell His stories, writing poetry and songs, and convey His critical messages! While we are not writing scripture, we do have times when we may write on the hearts of men.
