Prophetic Writing
Writing in the Spirit Type II & Activation
In this session, students will explore what it means to write in the spirit based on Writing in the Spirit Type II.
TYPE 2: The Immersive Atmosphere
Writing in the spirit also takes place in an immersive atmosphere to release God's will in prophecy, prophetic words, visions and dreams, words of knowledge, words of wisdom, witty ideas and concepts, the song of the Lord, etc. Immersive atmospheres are set by the Spirit of Prophecy, a strong prophetic atmosphere generally released when two or more are gathered in the name of Jesus (Matthew 18:20).
In environments like this the Lord raises up prophetic voices. This can be seen in Numbers 11 during the ordination of Moses' when the Spirit fell on the chosen 70 and caused them to prophesy. After these men began prophesying, the anointing fell on two other people outside the camp and they began to prophesy. You see, simply being near a saturated environment activated them in their spiritual gifts.
1 Samuel 19:20-21 NIV describes this best, "So he sent men to capture him. But when they saw a group of prophets prophesying, with Samuel standing there as their leader, the Spirit of God came on Saul's men, and they also prophesied. Saul was told about it, and he sent more men, and they prophesied too. Saul sent men a third time, and they also prophesied."
My Personal Experience
About a year or two into my faith, I began to experience a second type of writing in the Spirit. At the time, I was just forming my first scribal ministry team and we would gather often to share our prophetic writings, demonstrate our gift, study the word, encourage one another and pray. Then, one day this began to happen: One person would share… and it would begin a wildfire in the group "through writing." Literally, poets would write poetry… the song of the Lord would come forth, and supernatural ideas for plays, open mics and skits would be dug out on the spot.
Most prophetic people are familiar with similar activity like this on intercessory teams as people are sparked by previous prayers and then stirred to pray for other areas not covered. We also see this in prophetic circles as one-person prophesies in part and others began to build upon it – kind of like we see when prophetic teams are ministering to a person, a couple or a family.
In another example, I was a part of a local church community. During worship, there were times when I would experience the "pulling or the drawing" of the prophetic word from me for the corporate body in written form – mostly in spoken word poetry or prophetic song. In these examples, one thing was clear: There was an experience of the Lord's Word being drawn from me like water in a well. Because I am also an artist, I've also experienced the pull to respond in painting or drawing in a similar way as well.
Additional Insight
The prophetic is the prophetic regardless of the method of its administration. For people who rely on their vocal gifts, the prophetic is often released vocally. For people who rely on their artistic gifts, the prophetic is released through their artistic process. For those who are prophetic writers, the gift is released through prophetic writing. It doesn't mean that the anointing is special or greater. It simply identifies that the we are all different in the administration of our gifting (1 Cor 12). [sic]
Your writing exercise is your activation
Based on what you have learned, your assignment throughout the remainder of this course (and beyond) is (1) to be aware of immersive atmospheres and environments when they occur; (2) to enter into the writing process when you sense being drawn or pulled into it by Holy Spirit, and (3) keep a log of those occurrences by date and time. This strategy helps you develop discipline in this area overtime, and enlarges Holy Spirit's territory in equipping you.
