From this point forward, we will be skipping around a bit in the book, "The Scribal Anointing: Scribes Instructed in the Kingdom of Heaven." Before moving ahead with this session, read pages 59-74, and then complete pages 34-42 of The Scribal Companion student workbook before moving forward. I am challenging you with taking DETAILED NOTES from the lecture.

Then, take your time and listen to the audio below.

As you impart into others, a simple way of defining prophetic writing is to see it this way: It is the release of the Lord's heart for His congregation and His people through writing.

This definition gives us room to write prophetically through different means -- be it direct prophecy, creative poetry, parables, acrostics, prophetic comics or cartoons or any means necessary that demonstrate writing as discussed in The Scribal Anointing and the video lecture above.

The text below includes excerpts from my book, "Writing & the Prophetic: Foundations of The Scribal Anointing®" pages 18-20. Because of how much content is used, I did not use standard citations and presented it in this format instead.

We are at a point now where we are building upon the foundations that have been set in this course. In this section, we are going to review the FIVE AREAS of prophetic writing. What is different, however, is that I will make specific, brief references to how creative writing flows in those categories.

Prophetic writers write from adoration.

In Psalm 45:1, King David declared that his heart was “stirred” by noble theme, he recites “his verses” for His Noble King and that his tongue is the pen of a skillful writer. In other words, King David – as a son of God – made a conscious choice to exhort the Lord after being overwhelmed by the Lord's presence.

Adoration means to pay profound reverence to God or to honor someone who is appreciated. It is also response to love, for example, children show that they adore their parents by giving them drawings or making things for them that they love. Spouses may show their husbands or wives that they adore them by writing poetry, love letters or songs.

Prophetic writers write by inspiration.

There are two types of inspiration we should be aware of when considering writing. One aspect of inspiration is that inward desire to “respond” to something we have seen or experienced. Rev. 1:19 NIV says, "Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later." The source of this inspiration is limitless. For example, a child was struck and killed in my community by a random shooter. I was so grieved by this incident that I was inspired to write a spoken word poem about God's justice. We also write out of great joy and a desire for laughter.

Secondly, there is this inward desire to take the understanding we have of God or the things he has revealed to us “and make it plain” for others. This is where we tap into witty ideas and concepts like children's books, the writing of parables, the development of plays and skits, comedy, etc. to present truths.

Prophetic writers write by urgency and command.
Writing by urgency or command from Holy Spirit is truly what defines a prophetic writer. How? Well, most of us begin in this place. For the creative prophetic writer, many prophetic words are released through creative means. Most of my prophetic words were given in poetic form early in ministry. At the end of this lesson, I have shared a written version of a prophetic warning I was given from 2008. This is the place where we will find our direct prophecies, interpretations from God-centered dreams and visions, divine utterances, etc. (1 Corinthians 14:1-5 and Acts 2:17).

Prophetic writers write by profession.

This one is obvious. Many prophetic writers are employed in arenas where creative writing is a daily part of their profession. For example, screenwriters, scriptwriters, fine arts educators, newsletter editors, web content providers, etc. The beauty in this, however, is recognizing that the Lord is a part of our prophetic writing activities as well as the writing itself. Earlier, we discussed this specifically in our definition of creative, prophetic writing. For years, I worked as a grant writer. I cannot count the number of times I tapped into supernatural creative strategy and processes in writing those grants! Holy Spirit would guide my word choices and program ideas so carefully that I knew there was no way I could have written those grants without the Lord partnering with me.

We Write Out of Necessity
There is that place of writing out of necessity – you know, filing complaints, or otherwise writing statements in the process of handing personal business. There have been many times I’ve had to write letters or responses to insurance companies, utility services or similar entities. Similar to writing by profession, there is a grace in which the Lord releases creative strategies and processes to formulate very effective documents.

ACTIVITY: If you are a prophetic writer, you might want to walk through each one of these categories and discuss what that particular release looks like in your life. This is an exercise that you can do in conjunction with the THREE LEVELS & 10 REASONS that you completed at the beginning of this course. It is also an exercise you can use with those you lead.

For those who would like to be released in the prophetic writing realm, this is an excellent place to formulate a prayer of release.

Some creative, prophetic writers may identify closely with one or two areas more than the others; and others will fine themselves crossing into all five areas.

Generally, if you are employed, have your own business or find yourself assisting others in writing related activities, then more of these areas will present themselves as there is a need. However, if you have freedom in your prophetic writing life (meaning no commitment to perform because of obligation), then generally one or two areas are more dominant than the rest.

In certain seasons of your life different areas reveal themselves to meet the needs of that season.
