Critical Points on Teaching The Scribal Anointing®
In The School of the Scribe, all teachings on the office of the scribe, scribal culture and scribal ministry spring from this one question: "How is the Lord using scribal ministry today?" We move students from the past to the NOW. In this session, students will learn why it is critically important to approach scribal teachings using the models set up inside The School of the Scribe.
TAKE NOTE OF THESE THINGS AS YOU STUDY
Here are some things you need to know BEFORE heading into the depth of The Scribal Anointing®. These foundations will help keep students on track with our purpose and intent here.
You need to know that we are not trying to define the "scribe" from the perspective of the world. Rather, we are looking at the calling of the scribe "as it relates to scribal focus" in the Scriptures. All roads for us lead back to the FIRST TIME the Lord appointed scribes for service in the congregation. Any teachings that take us OUTSIDE OF THAT SCOPE could skew the intention of "The Scribal Anointing" teachings.
So let's deal with some truths that help us get a firm grip on where we are heading.
The scribal arts predate the Bible. Scribes were thriving and operating in their scribal professions in various cultures long before the Holy Bible was written and the nation of Israel was formed. Their primary purpose in those days was to keep trading records (primarily ledgers of mathematical computations) and make copies of existing documents for the societal elite. It wasn't until the printing press was invented that the scribal profession began to lose ground... as focus shifted from "scribal skill" to machine efficiency --- and the scribal profession began to advance into new realms.
We DO NOT focus on the time in scribal history BEFORE the Bible (or before Moses). Potential teachers need to adhere to this specific position. Our study of Biblical scribes begins when scribes were SET in the congregation. The prophetic mandate is SET from this point forward. If we move outside of this truth, we run the risk of adding or mixing global scribal activities with the "biblical office of the scribe" as demonstrated within "biblical scribal culture and context" that could introduce applications and information that is extremely confusing, misleading and does not directly apply to our prophetic scribal lineage.
The teachings from Apostle Theresa Harvard Johnson are very clear: The office of the scribe, scribal culture, and scribal ministry are founded on God's intent for the scribes in ancient Israel and the legacy they continued through the Gospel until now.
With these truths in mind, these critical points stand at the forefront of everything you are learning.
In learning about scribes in antiquity, we focus heavily on the Old Covenant. The identity and ministry of the scribe are unveiled in considerable detail in the Old Covenant. The detail is so tremendous that heritage and history can be traced through numerous, accurate historical accounts outside the Bible. In addition, the Old Covenant allows us to follow the evolution of the scribe from its biblical beginnings into the time of the apostles. So we study the Old Covenant to "reveal" New Covenant application and revelation.
We begin our teachings on the scribe with Moses. The Scribal Anointing® begins here. Period. Rather, our journey begins when scribes were first “officially set in office” as ministers and governors over the children of Israel. We will walk through this in great detail shortly. The Scribal Anointing® is built on the "prophetic heritage" of these scribes. There is absolutely no reason, in the midst of this teaching, to stretch the prophetic scribe beyond this point.
We draw significantly from Jewish history. We will cover quite a bit of information pertaining to Jewish history. The bottom line is that we cannot dig into understanding the ministry of the scribe without discussing the Jewish customs, life, and other historical data that shaped their biblical culture. The goal is not to turn toward any type of Judaic or Messianic movement or to convince anyone of a Jewish Christ. That is not the focus of what students will learn here. What is shared helps put the scriptures, biblical culture, the scribe, and scribal ministry in its proper context so that comprehension is established. Exploring the history of the past unlocks our current scribal position and gives us insight into the future.
Outside of historical facts and scriptural evidence, The Scribal Anointing book is based entirely on a prophetic revelation Apostle Johnson received in 2005. In other words, Holy Spirit unlocked this book following a dream, and expanded on it as she studied and learned of God's heart for biblical scribes. The tying together of the varying aspects of The Scribal Anointing® is a part of that revelation – and is in no way tied to any other group, ministry, teaching, camp, etc. There have been, however, many people impacted through Apostle Johnson's teachings over the last two decades globally. Thousands have taken courses, attending conferences or attended conferences where teachings have gone forth, read her blog articles, purchased books, etc. HOWEVER, the content of this course and its language is distinctive. The goal of every effort to teach The Scribal Anointing is simple: To clearly build the “spiritual” identity of the present-day scribe, and to cause them to walk out their ministries in faithfulness to God.
No assignments are associated with this lesson. However, these points will help you when explaining to students WHY we approach teaching the prophetic scribe this way. Please make a note of these points for an upcoming quiz.
