WE ARE CULTURE MAKERS
There are three types of culture we will confront as prophetic scribes: biblical scribal culture, prophetic scribal culture and the culture YOU will create among the scribes you influence.
In The School of the Scribe, our primary directive is to create a culture of immersion in Christ. This mandate is the crown jewel of our belief system... and remains the core scripture of any and everything we do associated with ministry. I will never move or grow past it. Rather, the Lord continues to expand the truth it brings moment by moment and day after day -- in beauty and simplicity.
The first apostles established the culture of the Kingdom with a CRITICAL mandate in Matthew 28:18-20 that was released exclusively to them concerning the foundation of Christ's ecclesia. The church people have made with their own hands stands more in line with the Pharisaic model Jesus rebuked in Matthew 23.
Matthew 28:18-20 declares, "18 Yeshua came and talked with them. He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make people from all nations into talmidim, immersing them into the reality of the Father, the Son and the Ruach HaKodesh, 20 and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember! I will be with you always, yes, even until the end of the age.”
As followers of the teachings of Jesus and that of the apostles, we are commanded to teach scribal culture within the INTENTION of the culture of the Kingdom... and that is to reveal Christ in the capacity in which we are sent. You see, The School of the Scribe is not simply teaching people about scribal functions -- but about our immersed, prophetic "scribal culture."
Andy Crouch wrote, "...Christians seem to have forgotten how to tell the story of Scripture as a story that is both a genuine disclosure of God's presence in the world and a deeply cultural artifact that intersects over and over with concrete historical realities" (2013).
I believe that the calling of this school sits right here! The bridge the two -- and bring us into a definitive place of recognizing WHO WE ARE IN THE EARTH.... as sent by the Lord.
If we are going to walk as scribes, it is imperative that we recognize our power to "create culture" for scribes. In my opinion, creating culture is a SUPER POWER. How? Well, the culture you create is the veil under which all spiritual and natural laws governing our identity, purpose and place in the Kingdom as well as the earth will be understood.
Listen, there is no definitive definition for the word culture. If we were to try to frame it, it is best understood as a collection of practices, beliefs, philosophies and stories that shape our reality in the world around us. Even further, that culture is heavily influenced by our ethnicities, educational attributes, family upbringing and histories, and even our specific denominational or non-denominational beliefs.
What we are challenged to do as prophetic scribes is process a broader understanding of our calling in this area from a spiritual perspective and in turn "create a culture" that will facilitate exploration, spiritual growth, and development in the lives of those who encounter our lives.
As teachers of this curriculum, your participation here is not simply about building a coaching business or becoming a scribal guru. Rather, you must decide how to create an immersive atmosphere that connects prophetic scribes with "a genuine disclosure of God's presence in the world" while clarifying how cultural artifacts "intersect concrete historical realities." In other words, how can the Lord be revealed in the world today that will impact the Kingdom tomorrow.
Remember, the ministry of the scribe is STILL in its pioneering season in the prophetic church. You have an opportunity to stand among those whose legacy will be IMMERSIVE, and remembered for impacting the lives of Sons in a way that matches the Lord's heart for them in this century.
How will you carry the legacy of biblical scribal culture? What kind of prophetic scribal culture will you CREATE or will you embrace? How will the scribal culture you CREATE honor the Lord's heart for His Kingdom, His people?
You do not have to answer these questions right now. But at some point in the months and years to come, there should be an answer within the depths of who you are in Christ.
